The Heart of Innovation show, sponsored by Reflow Medical and the Global PAD Association, airs on KDOW radio 1220AM in the San Francisco Bay Area and is distributed through TheInnovators.Network.

It’s 60 minutes aimed at saving life and limb through awareness of and advances in treatment for cardiovascular and vascular diseases. Heavy emphasis, however, is on a disease more prevalent and deadlier than prostate cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer combined, known as Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). PAD is a circulatory issue that affects the leg arteries. Left untreated, PAD leads to heart attack, stroke, and amputation.

Most people don’t know they have it until it reaches advanced stages because symptoms of leg pain (neuropathy), hip and buttocks pain, leg cramps, numbness, and tingling are often misdiagnosed as diabetic neuropathy, general neuropathy, old age, arthritis, restless legs, or back issues (including sciatica).

This show, also co-hosted by Interventional Cardiologist and advanced limb salvage specialist Dr. John Phillips, explores the tools and techniques that are changing the treatment landscape for vascular and cardiovascular issues. Specifically for PAD, it emphasizes the new devices and techniques that allow doctors to go further to open even the smallest arteries in the calf and foot or even bypass them by hijacking a vein in minimally invasive ways.

The most powerful episodes are those where patients join the conversation along with their life or limb-saving physician in our “Save My Piggies” series. Listeners who have tuned into these episodes such as You May Not Lead An Amputation | Dr. Zola N’Dandu Explains Why and A No-Cut Bypass Gets Rose Walking Again have been inspired to call the Global PAD Association’s Leg Saver Hotline (1-833-PAD-LEGS) for assistance, hoping to also find a doctor who may save their leg or life using advanced tools and techniques discussed during the show.

We are grateful that The Heart of Innovation, with 107,000 streams monthly through KDOW, is being recognized for excellence in featuring life and limb-saving innovation. It’s truly an honor to be named among a powerful list of women in innovation to follow in 2025, including those below:
